Last month's meeting was a great success! Thank you to everyone who could join us for our first in-person meeting since March 2023. We kicked off Project Connect planning in a big way. A special thank you to The Salvation Army in Bremerton for hosting the 30+ attendees and to Gather Together Grow Together for providing the wonderful refreshments. The discussions were incredibly valuable and it showed how making sure we have a network of providers is important to providing housing and services in Kitsap County.
As we mentioned during the meeting, we are working on how to improve outreach this year and that includes having the ability to send emails more often. Our current provider, Mailchimp, only allows a certain amount of emails on our current plan so we are finalizing the upgrade now. Your patience is appreciated as we transition our communication tools.
If you have any questions about Project Connect, please bring them to next week's meeting or email admin@kitsaphhc.org.
Each year, KHHC leads the effort around planning the Project Connect resource fairs. The events happen over three days and coincide with the annual Point-in-Time count. Throughout the next few months, more information will be sent through this newsletter.
If you would like to participate in planning, host a table as a vendor, host a donation event over the holidays at your office, or contribute in other ways, please let us know at admin@kitsaphhc.org.

Hello Friends,
We are the 2024 Project Connect Donations Team reaching out to you, the members of the Kitsap Housing and Homelessness Coalition, to help us as we call on our community to host Donation Drives. We’re asking that if you are a member of a club, church or other organization that might wish to host a drive, will you help by sharing the contact information of the administrator or officer who we should contact?
Will you also allow us to mention your name? This way we aren’t making a cold call which might not get the same attention as a proper referral!
We understand that this is a Big Ask, and we promise to only ask once! This is our KHHC primary annual project, and this seems to be the most efficient way for our small team to make fruitful contacts in our community. We are counting on folks being especially open to supporting Project Connect and the population we serve, during the upcoming Season of Giving.
Thank you,
Katy and Jo
Your small but mighty Donations Team
Feel free to reassure your organization’s contact person that we will be happy to collect their contributions and support them in every way.

Thanks to Doug Washburn, Kitsap County Department of Human Services Director for sharing the following announcement. We are excited to continue to work closely with Carl in his new role.
Carl E Borg has been named the new Housing and Homelessness Division Director for Kitsap County Human Services.
Carl has an extensive management background working in the nonprofit world for over 30 years for the Boy Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Tacoma Musical Playhouse. The last 15 years of his career has been spent working for the United Way of Kitsap County as Director of Resource Development and serving as President/CEO for the past 7 years.
During his time at United Way, he has been committed to making Kitsap a better place to live. In partnership with the Kitsap Community Foundation, he was instrumental in creating Kitsap Strong and the Kitsap Great Give. Carl has a BS degree in Microbiology from Oregon State University, which was a great help during the pandemic when United Way and the Kitsap Community Foundation together raised over $3,000,000 to provide nonprofit organizations with funding before government support could be implemented. He also worked closely with Kitsap Mental Health Services to help secure funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Pendleton Place to become a reality.
Carl has 3 adult children, 2 of them that work and live on the east coast. During his free time, you can usually find him walking his dog Mac on the Crescent Valley Watershed trails. Last year Carl and Mac walked over 1,900 miles together.
Carl’s knowledge of Kitsap County and the connections he has formed at United Way will be an asset to the community as he assumes the role of Housing and Homelessness program manager where he is looking forward to continuing to make Kitsap County a better place to live.

Kitsap County has released the Preliminary 2023 Annual Point-in-Time Count data. The WA State Department of Commerce will be reporting on the certified count to HUD in Late April. They will release an updated Certified Count report when these certified numbers are released for Kitsap County.
Thank you again all the KHHC partners, staff, and volunteers that helped to participate in this very important count in January.
The City is currently in the process of updating our Comprehensive Plan. Bremerton’s Comprehensive Plan provides guidance for how the City will grow and develop over the next 20 years. The Comprehensive Plan is the centerpiece of local planning efforts and relays the goals and policies that will guide the day-to-day decisions of elected officials and local government staff. The City Comprehensive Plan update will be completed by December 2024.

Responding to community need. Every three years, Kitsap Community Resources (KCR) conducts a comprehensive assessment to evaluate the needs and assets in our community. Historically, it's been designed to highlight the gaps in services, programs and policies in Kitsap county, specifically as they pertain to the community members that might need KCR's services the most. It has also helped inform and guide KCR's strategic plan...
Data gathering with equity in mind. ...In all, 4,205 members of our community shared their perspective; the biggest response by far to any previous survey conducted by KCR. Equally important is that the respondents do largely represent our whole community, when considering their residency, income, race, age, geography, etc. This success is directly attributable to the strength of the community partnership that supported the effort.
Data for all. Moreover, these partners have committed that the data be accessible to all. Below is a public dashboard that's been created to make it easier for all service partners and community members to analyze data and see important results. Our hope is that the results will serve as an educational piece for agencies throughout Kitsap County to better understand the challenging issues our community faces and ultimately aid in creating effective solutions...
